Horse Feed and forageYour general horse’s health can be greatly affected by the type of horse feeds that your horse digests. Throughout the day and night, your horse should have proper access to forage feed (grass or hay). Forage feed gives your horse all the fibre it needs to promote a properly functioning digestive system and should make up at least half of the horse’s daily food intake. Make sure that all hay is free from mould and dust. Because we know how much you care for your horse, only the best feed should be supplied. All pastures where the horse might graze should be carefully managed and kept free from any poisonous foliage, furthermore, any grass clippings your house might digest can cause serious digestive disturbances and increase gas. Other types of horse feed, such as oats, barley and maize have an increased amount of energy, so are great if your horse need a pick me up. Sugar beet, however, is a great all round feed. It is low in sugar and releases energy slowly and high in levels of fibre and calcium. It's fantastic for fussy eaters. Pre-mixed options are available on the market, but it is important to know how the ingredients may effect your horse or pony, for example, maize can cause excitablity in your horse. On the other hand, singular ingredients can be purchased and then given when required. There are many options when it comes to horse feeds so look below to find the right solution.
