A Schoolmaster or Schoolmistress depending on the gender of the horse is a fantastic choice for a novice rider who wishes to further their education within a certain field. A schoolmaster will be experienced and well trained, generally in a particular area such as show jumping, dressage, showing or cross country. They are the type of horse that are excellent for anyone wishing to 'start' in a chosen area as thay make very good teachers.  Most will have a been there, done that attitude which is great for a learning/beginner.
A schoolmaster will almost in all instances be over 12 years old, the reason for this is that like most things, to be very good at something you need to have had the experience! However, this is not a negative as a horse of this age group can still provide many years of learning, fun and enjoyment. One of the questions that you may want to ask a seller is whether or not the horse requires any sort of additional care.

This type of horse should posess the following qualities: Well trained, No vices, Good to do, Have a willing attitude.
